Founded in 1939, Rhatigan Architects have developed a strong reputation for delivering quality projects across a range of sectors. In 2024 I worked closely with them to design and develop a new website to better showcase the breadth and scale of their practice.

Challenges

Initial discovery sessions revealed several limitations with the existing site, including inconsistent responsive behaviour, a lack of a cohesive design system, little visual rhythm and an unclear typographic hierarchy. Together, these made the site's content difficult to navigate and limited how effectively the practice's work could be presented.

The challenge was to create a robust and adaptable framework that could support a large and varied portfolio while reflecting the established character of the practice.

Decisions made

Through competitive research and prototyping, I developed a flexible design system with a defined typographic hierarchy and consistent responsive behaviour across devices. I also restructured the presentation of content to create clearer pathways through the practice's work, while maintaining a considered and restrained visual approach in keeping with the brand.

Outcomes

The resulting site provides a more cohesive and responsive platform for presenting Rhatigan's work, with a flexible design system that can adapt as the practice and its portfolio continue to grow.
