Guzzle Magazine
Guzzle is an independent food, art and drink publication, founded in Dublin and now based in London. I worked on the inaugural and second issues as a self-directed freelance project.
Challenges
With content ranging from poetry and photography to personal essays and comedic hot takes, the central challenge was creating a visual identity that could feel accessible and playful while still giving more serious and thought-provoking pieces the space they needed.
I therefore focused on developing a magazine system with enough consistency to establish a strong visual rhythm, while retaining enough flexibility for each piece to have its own character.
Decisions made
Working closely with the editor and director Jane Gleeson, I developed and refined the brand and editorial direction through test prints and iterative exploration.
I established body copy styles and a flexible typographic system, while collaborating with illustrators and photographers to introduce further visual layers. I also oversaw print production, including sourcing printers, selecting paper stocks and determining the magazine format.

Outcomes
The inaugural issue was well received and sold out within its first year. The second issue allowed me to further refine the visual system and build on the foundations of the first. The project resulted in a robust and adaptable editorial language capable of accommodating a wide range of content while maintaining a distinct Guzzle identity.
